Mars Continued Attacks!

Fractions within fractions! Frac! Frac! Frac!

This is a comic that didn't get made last Halloween. I'm glad I made a note of it for this year.

Yippie-yi-A! Yippie-B-C-D!

This almost was a comic about Ghost Peppers, but I wanted a Math Horror Movie before the month ran out. Plus, I couldn't buy any peppers because I didn't have any Cash on me.

Honestly, I'm surprised that this hasn't been done with zombies, skeletons or vampires.

I didn't have a way to make this a Math Horror Movie.

Don't get me started about the Head of Vector!

I didn't get to do any of the Halloween comics that I actually planned out in advance. Ironically, this wasn't one of them. This one came just came to me Halloween evening.

Evil points this way sounded better than Evil has a direction.

What's your opinion?

Cuadricula

It'll rattle your diverticula!

If I can find a place in the curricula.

I have to translate some of my notes into Spanish for the English Language Learners in the class. And after the third or fourth time I said "cuadricula", you can imagine the Legosi accent that I wanted to add to it. And then I remembered from the old TV GUIDE that the spanish stations didn't have "MOVIE" listings. They had "PELICULA". So that was added in.

I did try to find more Spanish words ending in -icula, but Google would only give me English. Or it would translate the phrase "words ending in -icula" into Spanish.

Sadly, I thought the translation was going to be "box", but it was "grid" or "square". Had it been "box", then the vampire would've been in a coffin.

I tagged this one "Halloween" just so it'll pop up when I click on it.

Math Horror Movies: The Hungry Cardioid

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

At least, I didn't make a Cardioid B joke.

There's no "B" movie named "The Hungry Heart" that I'm aware of. I was originally going for a "Tell-Tale Heart" comic. However, when I started working on it, my homemade ink blot was telling me Pac-Man, so I went that route. But then I needed a new title because there wasn't anything "tell tale" about Pac-Man. Maybe next year for this.

No promises on Cardioid B though. How's that for scary?

Math Horror Ways: Seven Ways ...

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

It's to DivIdE for!

I have probably used all of these with the exception of b\a. The colon notation looked out at first, because I usually see it written in a proportion more than as just a single ratio, which is division.

The backward notation is useful for the distinction between "a divided by b" and "b divided into a". There are, of course, the same thing, but students get confused by the wording. I assume it's similar to the problem with "20 less than a number" being written as N - 20 and not 20 - N.

But everyone should have learned their "gazintas" at an early age.

That time of year, again, when I need more shlocky Halloween-type horror B-movie titles.

I love 'em and hate 'em at the same time.

Math Horror Movies: THEm!

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2020, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

>Spoiler: There's no top. That's anticlimactic, I know.

So this one came about accidentally while I was working on "The y". I almost made a joke in the aftertext and then realized I had a comic.

And top of this, I borrowed the spider from the work files from Ants vs. Spiders, which had all those lovely ants as well.

The one thing that killed me was that I found the background and started making the comic, forgeting that I needed to fit it into my screen. I could have avoided a couple of problems. For one thing, I would have made the slope less steep, and fit more ants on it. Second, I actually had to slightly rotate the ants to fit them on this line when they would have fit a more gentle slope just fine.

Planning always helps. Having time to plan ... well, that's a different buggy situation. Anyway, que sera, sera, whatever plus b plus b.

And as these are all "B" films, don't expect to see The b any time soon. Not until next year when I'm either desperate enough to use it, or forgetful enough to think I thought of it for the first time!

Math Horror Movies: (x, why?) The 13th

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2020, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

>Accept no similarities! It's the same or it's not.

I overthought a compilation before simplifying, so to speak.

When I first started this, I never expected to still be doing this years later. Many of the webcomics I read back in 2007 have fallen by the dustbits (some have been reclaimed). Others are still going strong. Me? To quote (then paraphrase) Luke Coombs: "They say I'm middle of the road, not much to show, underachieving average Joe." But I wear my heart of my sleeve, and that might not mean much to them, but it does to me.

For thsoe who I left waiting for this one: my apologies, but family first. They were here for a good part of the day, which prevented me from finishing up. But that's fine with me.

Math Horror Movies: THE y

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2020, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

What will it intercept?

I don't know how many Math Horror Movies there will be this year because I've run through most of the obvious and quite a few obscure movie references, and they'll get more repetitive than a math drill.

This one was a little truoublesome. I originally thought to call it The Return of the y or somesuch because I thought "The y" might not be obvious. Once I drew it, I didn't feel that way. Except ... !

Then I had the logo (and post title) problem that is looks like "They"! So I played some font games. I'm happy with the result.

Tis twin beauties killed the identical beasts!

I enlarged the size of this comic so I wouldn't have to crop the image too much. I was going to shrink it again afterward, but I think I've been making these comics too small all along -- something that I discovered when they asked me to increase the size of some comics so that they could be used in a text book.

Math Horror Movies: Sine of Parallelostein

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2018, C. Burke.

Completing the original trilogy, with help from Igor.

Co-incidentally, given that Frankenstein was the name of the Doctor, not the monster, it is curious that his Bride appears in the second film and his Son in the third. The creature doesn't exactly marry the female creature created for it, nor does it produce any offspring... that we know of!!! Wait, no, it doesn't.
