Happy Si(x)th Birthday to (x, why?)

I didn't forget! I just haven't had time. I was out early getting to the job, and I just got home from Parent-Teacher conferences. In between, there was limited computer availability, which had to be shared with the other teachers. I suppose I could've found my way to a fast-food place with free wifi and tapped away on my iPad, but that wouldn't have gone over very well.

But it was Six Years Ago (which is A Long Time Ago...) that the first Co-medians comic first appeared on this blog. So it's a Si(x)th birthday (and you can go find the x).

The new job is a little hectic, so I haven't been able to keep my usual pace. So no comic today.

I did want to get geeky and have a "Sith" birthday, with Star Wars references like this one, but I'd be lucky to have it finished before midnight Eastern time. Having a little fun on the dark side.

Alas, not to be. But at least I had a chance to mention it.

And a chance to say Thank You to those of you who have been here from the beginning, who came in somewhere in the middle, and who recently found us. I'm doing it for you as much as for me. Okay, I'm still doing it for me -- my sanity still needs saving!

Irregular Webcomic Guest Comic

David Morgan-Mar, creator of Irregular Webcomic asked me to contribute a strip to his Guest Week of strips, which is now in its second week. My strip appeared yesterday.

It's my first Lego bricks strip that I photographed myself, rather than adapting David's previous work. (Look up some to the strips with the Teacher Center tag.

HAPPY FOURTH BIRTHDAY!! (A Day Late!)

I did plan to put it on my calendar, so I wouldn't forget.

But I didn't, so I did. Oopsie.
It's probably just because it seems so hard to believe that it's been four years since I published that first comic on this blog.

The blog itself is older as it was originally intended for my students, a few of whom actually viewed it and left comments. And then I decided to take the plunge into posting some poorly drawn MS Paint pictures with words attached. I figured I could come up with a few jokes and pass a couple of months. But 600 comics? And four years? That's a Leap Birthday!

New comic tomorrow.

Third Anniversary This Sunday

The blog itself might be a little bit older, but this Sunday, October 24, 2010, marks three years since I first posted the Co-medians strip, which started something that I never expected to last as long as it has. So far, 528 strips had been posted, which is an average of 176 per year. An average of a little less than one strip every two days. Not bad when I'm shooting for three times per week (more or less).

Barring any unforeseen problems in the next couple of days, there will be something posted on Sunday.

Comic Genesis still not updating

For whatever reason, the Comic Genesis page still is not updating, or if it is, it's very slow. It's three comics behind as of this writing, which is why I haven't updated the blog yet.

If it doesn't update soon, I'll update this one and start moving my "Sunday Comics" to a different server where they can be seen.

Geocities closing down, closing down, closing down...

Yahoo has announced that they have decided to get rid of all the free Geocities web sites and encourage users to fork over a lot of money for one of the premium webhosting sites. Not right away, of course, but later this year.

How does that affect my blogger account?

Well, it so happens that my first school website was a geocities website. It had a minimum amount of success with my then-current students. However, one of the problems was that there was an advertising bar on the side of the page. It could be closed, but it reopened with every click. It was useful or appropriate for a school website.

However, the page offered 15 Mb of free storage, which didn't have advertising attached. Most of the images that are on this website are actually stored on geocities, which is also why, on occasion, they all disappear for about an hour or two when the bandwidth is too high. (That doesn't happen too often because this page doesn't have that kind of popularity.)

What it means for my page is that I'll have to find someplace else -- cheaper than $10/month -- to store all the images. I seem to have problems with linking directly to the xwhy.comicgenesis.com images, so that isn't a solution. But I need to find a solution soon, because I have to edit more than half the posts on this blog.

I will also have to hurry up and copy all the current book reviews on my other book blog Real Soon Now.

UPDATE: Well, two choices have emerged. First, I tried linking an image from Flickr and that seems to work, or I can use a Google page. Yahoo, which owns Geocities, also owns Flickr, which I've been using for a while and already has some of my images. Google, on the other hand, owns Blogger, where this blog resides. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

I tried using Blogger for my images before and it was horrible, but I believe that was before Google bought it. So I have a decision to make. Any input from anyone that uses either one, or just from my legion of readers (who number almost as many as the Legion of Super-Heroes ... at least, the version from the late 70s) who want to give an opinion.

Besides, I really, really appreciate comments, even the ones from people who aren't related to me or owe me money.

Happy Birthday, Thing One

Just in case I get busy and forget to call: Happy Birthday, Tom.
