You know that we've all been there.

The third wheel on a bicycle doesn't make it a tricycle unless you're the big wheel and the other two are following behind you. That's not this guy. Wasn't me, either. Just a case of mistaken greetings.

On a side note, Happy 12 + 12 = 24!

Writing Update Philcon was fun! I went to a few panels, and I even got to read for a couple of minutes at the launch party.

I also write Fiction!

The NEW COLLECTION IS AVIALABLE! A Bucket Full of Moonlight, written by Christopher J. Burke, contains 30+ pieces of short stories and flash fiction. It's available from eSpec Books!
Order the softcover or ebook at Amazon.

Vampires, werewolves, angels, demons, used-car salesmen, fairies, superheroes, space and time travel, and little gray aliens talking to rock creatures and living plants.

My older books include my Burke's Lore Briefs series and In A Flash 2020.

If you enjoy my books, please consider leaving a rating or review on Amazon or on Good Reads. Thank you!

School Life #43: Two Wrong

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

Did he say he got two wrong ... or that he was just too wrong.

Proprtionality is important. Percentages are important.

Only getting 2 wrong out of 25 isn't a big dead (except to the highly competitive, and I totally respect that). Getting 2 wrong out of 3 or 4 means you need to do more reviewing.

Yes, a regular schedule of updates to this site would be nice. I'm not sure when that will happen. Working on it.

Writing Update I will be at Philcon this weekend, November 23-34, 2024, in Cherry Hill, NJ, at the DoubleTree by Hilton. I'll be at TWO book launch parties: one that will include my book (see the table below), and another for an anthology that I have a story in. If you're in the area, come on by!

You're Back!

"For how long, Mr. Spock? ... For how long?"

I've made promises, and I've broken them. But since I don't know how many people are still reading blogs these days, I can't tell how many people, if any, that I've disappointed. Few have inquired about my extended absences, so it leaves me wondering.

Two things spurred me on: I really want to make it to 2,000 comics, which I should have surpassed a long time ago, and I got an email from Fables dot pro about hosting my comic. Fables got my name from the old TopWebComics site, which still exists, actually, even if I haven't visited it in over a decade. (By contrast, I still check out the Comic Genesis site a few times per year, even if I haven't updated it. And I'm not even sure I remember how to update it. I might need my old PC where there's a saved password.)

More to come. For real this time.

School Life #42: Oh Well

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2024, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

It's amazing the little tidbits I remember from odd Jeopard categories or other game shows.

It works both ways, when some odd thing I remember from my life turns out to be an answer.

One quick Final Jeopardy stories: years ago my brother Stephen told me a philosophy joke (seriously). I've since heard it repeated numerous times using Plato and Socrates. But Stephen used Satre and Camus. I've encountered Satre's name since then but really know nothing about him. The clue on Jeopardy wanted to know who Satre was refering to when he said (some quote). I'm sitting at home thinking, "How the hell should I know? Camus!"

And the answer was Camus. And none of the contestants got it.

As for this joke, it was something that occurred to me in class, and then I realized that I do have a character named Mark. Except that Mark has been shown, I believe, to be one of the smarter students.

School Life #41: Do or Do Not

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

Sometimes I realize that I need to be cautious with what movie quotes I use. The students might interpret them in a way other than what was intended.

I wanted to get back to what the students were up to before school is out for summer. (In NYC, we're still in school.)

I have to confess to getting a bit disorganized in my 17th year of (x, why?). I wasn't sure of either the Comic number or the School Life number. And I keep referring to "School Life" as "Student Life", privately. Neither one works for the summer, but I'll use it regardless. At least, I didn't go forward with the "(x, why?) After Hours" tag that I'd thought about many years ago.

Everyone know Charlie Brown and Snoopy went to the Moon, not to the Galápagos!

This one has been in the pipeline for a while, waiting to be done. Problem was I forget about it a couple of times, but the good ones always come back.

Sometimes the bad ones do, too, like a bad (knock, knock, knock) Penny.

Learning was assessed, just not the learning that was expected.

This was just one of those things that pops up in Geometry class when things are written on the board, and they appear to be something else when looked at out of context. And someone who is less aware (or more asleep) might not have the proper context. (Reference "What's a Parabola?")

A new semester is under way. I hope it's fruitful. In the meantime, I'm catching up on old Regents exams so I can avoid rewriting something that needs to be rewritten even though I don't want to rewrite it. (Edit, sure, but rewrite?)

Obviously, Blarney the dinosaur was inspired by St. PaT-Rex.

The students are diminutive versions of three of Ken's students. Or perhaps they're derivative?

But one thing is certian: I love you ... coming to visit my page. Come back often and I'll post more content.

More ideas coming. Let's see if time permits, especially now that I'm trying to keep up with my writing. (See below.)

School Life #38: Last Year

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2024, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

Can you have a meta of a meta joke?

The meta of the joke is that Katie hasn't at all appeared this school year. In fact she only appeared twice in 2023. One of those was a calendar problem, and in the other one, she's just standing off to the side.

The "funny" thing is that I haven't used the four girls together (like the three older girls on the right) since the girls have been paired off. And Katie hasn't been paired off ... yet. I guess she's been busy studying. Or maybe getting reading for the next consumer electronics trade show, or something like that. In the comic "Bible", she's the one most likely to be taking advanced classes, but I haven't shown those advanced classes.

I hope that this is the start of more comics, and not the start of a bunch of quick, mini comics. I had comics planned for Christmas and New Years, but they never materialized. Maybe I'll create them and maybe I'll save them for another year. Between home, work and now writing, when I do have time for comics, I don't have the energy, or I'm afraid gaffes will be made.

So Happy New Year, and let's all hope for the best in 2024!
