I didn't need to add "Speaking Truth to Power" right onto the image, did I?

Komplexify: A Letter to Cheating Students -- and a funny picture

While randomly picking blogs to persue from the 50 Best Math Blogs list, I came across an entry at the blog Komplexify that I wish that I'd written. Over the years, I've probably tried to explain this to many students, all except the math.

To my students, if you are reading this, go read A Letter to Cheating Students. Don't worry if you don't understand the math. Understand what's being said!

Now, since I usually post funny (I hope) images and comics here, here's one from that site:

Subtrahend is, of course, one step below comprehend. Right?

"Subtrahend" is one of those words you learn (or should have learned) back in first or second grade and then never really see again. Unless you're a Munchkin.

One of the 50 Best Math Blogs

According to a get-your-degree-online site, which I know nothing about and probably wouldn't otherwise mention, (x, why?) is one of the 50 Best Blogs for Math Majors.

I have to assume that the ranking is somewhat arbitrary because (x, why?) is number three. Which, of course, means that people who saw the list probably clicked that far, so WELCOME! to my new readers and I hope you come back again! Leave a comment, and let me know what you think of the website.

The link was also posted on reddit where this blog in particular got special mention -- but I would repeat what was said. (Oh, it wasn't that bad, and they were downvoted into the negatives before I got there, without my help.)

This Comic Brought to You by the Letter B

The last verse I was working on almost had the line,
"I violate my integrity."

Which reminds me, this is similar to an older comic from over a year ago because this one's more developed and because I forgot.

When asked, "Why do I need to learn this?", one of my colleagues replies, "Because I need a job! Okay?"

"Spiders are Arachnids, not Insects!!" "Science Geek!! Run for your lives!!!" Happy Tax Day! Watch out for all creepy-crawlers, bloodsuckers and things that go bump in the wallet. (Would that make them "buck-suckers"??)

Old, broken, Geo-cities links

I've been working my way through the archives trying to get rid of all the geocities links. If there's any broken comics, ones where there's only a little red "x" in place of the image, let me know.

In many cases, it's just the signature which is missing because the banner was still on geocities after I started putting the images on Google and Flickr. The older ones have links to the geocities images instead of the (x, why?) site.

I'm working on it.

Washer

(Click on the cartoon to see the entire image.)

I've seen this problem mentioned online twice in the past couple of weeks, neither time with any illustration. The first time that I read it, it took me a moment to realize that the washer referred to was the kind used with nuts and bolts.
I realized that my students would probably react the same way.

This was supposed to be up yesterday -- as the date on the comic suggests -- but it was so late already that I decided to just hold it for Tuesday.

This and That

A couple of things:

First of all, the Easter comic was uploaded yesterday. I'm happier with it than I had been, but I'm still not crazy about it.

Second, a shoutout to Mike at Spiked Math. I assume that his numbers have gone up recently because of repostings because I've seen a spike in my own numbers. Now, I can't entirely trust Google Analytics because it says that most people are finding my page through direct links (e.g., typing in the URL or clicking on a bookmark), which I still find hard to believe. But there has been a big increase this past week in traffic from Spiked Math, either from the link on the main page (thanks for that, Mike!) or from my responses in the comment sections on individual pages.

Finally, I hope to get back to a regular schedule of three comics per week soon. As far as Sunday Comics go, I don't know if reprinting Super-Stick-Man pages is the best thing to do.

Comments are welcome.

Remember: Stay out of the path of a charging hog or bison.
A hog causes one hell of a collision, and a bison is a super collider.

This comic is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to any living person would be pretty unrealistic and unbelieveable.
Seriously. It's all made up.

Sorry about the lateness of this strip. Things happen ... such as hating how it turned out and re-doing it from scratch.
