This can be a total problem.

This was based on an actual typo.

Piecewise Functions

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

All we are saying is give absolute value, a circle and the y-axis a chance.

I'm guessing that this joke occurs to me every time I have to cover the material in class, which leaves me wondering if I've done this joke before or not. Longtime fans might remember a previous occurrence. All google products are incredibly slow on the machine I'm currently using today. Isn't that odd? You know what else is odd? [Pause and wait for the audience to shout out the answer.] Yeah, I might use that gag again, too.

I mean, c'mon. I've been doing this for over 13 years now. And Wikipedia still won't acknowledge it.

During a continuous month of blogging back in May of 2014, I already have a write-up of piecewise functions (along with a joke about the Indy 500).

(x, why?) Mini: Wax On

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

As your science teacher, Mr. Miyagi, would explain.

Actually, he might explain that we had Waxing Gibbous and Waning Crescent phases shown.

On The Strip

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

The real twist is watching the ladies of Mobius Strip. There's no corner to stand on.

There used to be a hotel in Rye that was laid out like a Mobius strip, possibly designed by Escher. First timers could get lost following the map, so someone constructed a 3-D model to people orient themselves.

Now I'm thinking that I should update this comic to include buildings, but I don't think I allowed enough room for that.

ObMath: A Mobius strip is actually a one-sided surface and it you walk far enough, you'll go double the length of a non-twisted loop before you return to your starting point.

Excluded

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

Some places just seem less welcoming to certain potential clientele.

That's probably why these trendy places don't last. After a while, even the hottest spots cool off.

ObMath: Excluded values are values that make a fraction equal to 0, so they cannot be part of the domain of a function.

But is there a reason to exclude him? Is he a fraction, or is he just wearing a funny hat?

This would've been up yesterday but the computer I was working on was dragging for some reason. Could be related to the wifi issues the day before. As it is, it's glitched a few times while typing these sentences.

Hopefully, another update tomorrow.

Wi-Fi

It wasn't a productive day. For some people, this was not a problem.

The whole building was affected, not just my school Ironically, had I been scheduled to be home this week, I could have talk class to all of my students -- assuming that they were also at home and not in a classroom at school. It came on a little after noon, so a couple of classes could be salvaged, but you know that many students had mentally (and possibly physically) checked out for the day.

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

It might sound like that, but those aren't the actual words being stated.

And who was writing it?

I believe "State it and do away with it" was how my high school English teachers put it. At least, that's how I'm presenting it.

It's been a while, but I use what I remember when I write that kind of stuff. And, of course, the most important thing about these kinds of essays is to never, ever read the comments.

I had a name in my head for the student, but I didn't want to lock it in. Also, I considered using Missy here, but I didn't want to upset her fans.

The Saga Continues

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

It's a piece of fiction within a piece of fiction. Or is it?

And who was writing it?

It's true that Sven and Vaness haven't been around since last summer, maybe they're isolating at home. On the other hand, there isn't a triangle with Shaun, even if Vaughn or Hal seem to think so. (Or is there?)

Keep the date in mind, okay?

Daisy seems to be getting better at not blurting out the truth all the time.
