Unless you don't clean the terrarium, then it becomes Smell's Law.

Escaping the law should be easy. You know, because they're snails and they move slowly.

It's colored glass, by the way, not water, so I wouldn't drown the escargo.

Putting the splash in splash page.

When you change up an experiment, your results could show that you're all wet. On the other hand, taking the initiative shows a lot of potential. And a lot of kinetic.

(x, why?) Mini: Cool Stars

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)
(C)Copyright 2021, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

Ironically, even though he's cool, he's still hot stuff!

A red dwarf is stable enough that, unlike a brown dwarf, it won't burn out for a long, long time. Age of the universe long time.

Once again, a "mini" that took way to long to create. I did a lot of distortion and then in the end, I inverted the colors of the blue star to get the other two because I kept getting patches of green in both of them.

As your science teacher, Mr. Miyagi, would explain.

Actually, he might explain that we had Waxing Gibbous and Waning Crescent phases shown.

You know that there are people for whom that was obvious.

I did want to show students in this one, but I realized that I wanted the whiteboard head on for perspective.

Attractive

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2020, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

Whether Scott is more attracted to Annie or Barbara is left as an exercise to the reader.

Originally, I had Scott's desk with his computer setup behind him. All that got cut to so I could fit three panels. Also, witty banter is the antithesis of the strategic use of dialogue balloons. As it was, I had to navigate a minefield about being attracted to "large" or "massive" bodies for the sake of the punchline.

And it looks like that punch is coming.

L4 and L5 Points

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2019, C. Burke. "AnthroNumerics" is a trademark of Christopher J. Burke and (x, why?).

When I was little, I thought some day I could be part of some L5 Society. And then I turned 40, and I sort of did.

ObMath: For those who are unaware about the L4 and L5 Lagrange points in space, these are two of five points in spaces where the gravitation forces of other bodies (for example, the Sun and the Earth) equal the centrifugal forces felt by the third, smaller object. An object (satellite, space station) in one of these positions would be "parked" in space. They're named about Joseph-Louis Lagrange who wrote about them. What sets L4 and L5 apart from L1, L2, and L3 is that the former two are stable.

To find the location's of Earth's L4 and L5 points, imagine a line segment between the Sun and the Earth. Now imagine that a giant equilateral triangle in space. The L4 point is where the third point of the triangle crosses ahead of the Earth in its orbit. The L5 point similarly would be a point on the orbit behind the Earth.

So there's a giant rhombus is space with points S, L4, E, L5.

Fall

(Click on the comic if you can't see the full image.)

(C)Copyright 2017, C. Burke.

Any mistakes in the Science can be attributed to Scott's youth and inexperience at presenting the material and not necessarily his knowledge of the content.

But I wonder if "the bigger" he refers to are the senior teachers in the Teacher Room.

Happy First Day of Fall. I would have liked to have done something different for comic #1234 but timing prevented that. Things like that were good for "filler" comics when I was keeping a thrice-weekly schedule, but that's fallen off a bit. So I try to do things like that as "extra" comics.
