The mathematical perspective ignores the "Clintonian context", i.e. 'is' is left undefined, or unreasonably defined.
The Bard actually uses a larger space for expression, so the motive for being 'hard on the Bard' could be envy.
Hey, APL! Haven't seen that since my CIS 24 days back at Brooklyn College (not that we coded in it).
It would seem to me that using some kind of swap operator still requires space, if not upfront. Writing a subroutine like swap(fair, foul) would still need it.
But you have me on what the meaning of "is" is. Perhaps that's where Mr. Keegan is confused. On the other hand, the main reason to be hard on the bard is to annoy an English teacher. Friends don't let math friends don't English teachers.
